In their words…. an adoptee’s story:
“These past few months have been eventful. I was contacted in November by a half niece through My Heritage. It was a shock, but thanks to Adopt NI and the information you provided me with I knew this was genuine. Since then, and after a calls and daily text messages I have met with my two sisters and one brother, and it has been amazing.
It’s been life changing for me. They did not know anything about me, so it was a huge shock to them all. But they have embraced me and my family and the happiness I have felt over the last few months has been unreal.
We all feel a real connection to each other. It’s great to now finding out about my birth mother through them. They said I’m the one that looks most like her. You know I was never sure whether to make contact or not but I’m so glad we have found each other. I just want to thank you again for all the help and support you gave me. My story has been a good experience, and I’m so grateful for that, as I know others are not so fortunate.”

"The opportunity to speak freely and without judgment has been invaluable, and the expertise and understanding shown in our sessions have been truly transformative. Meeting another adopted individual for the first time, thanks to Adopt NI, was a powerful and emotional moment I’ll never forget.
“In just two hours, my caseworker and I worked with my father to rewrite a narrative that had surrounded me since my adoption—an experience that words simply cannot describe. This service has also supported my mother through counselling, making this journey a little more manageable for both of us.
“It’s been nothing short of life changing. Through talking therapy, we’re bridging memory gaps and piecing together my story. Slowly but surely, we’re getting there."
